Case Study: The Disasters Emergency Committee

Challenge:

The DEC works to provide a focus for the UK's fundraising efforts (individuals & corporate) in times of overseas disaster, for example the Asian Tsunami, and to coordinate the relief efforts of its member charities.  It represents 13 member charities; ActionAid, British Red Cross, CAFOD, CARE International UK, Christian Aid, Concern, Help the Aged, Islamic Relief, Merlin, Oxfam, Save the Children, Tearfund and World Vision.

The DEC needed a stronger online presence, supporting their activities, members and donors.  Due to high peaks in site traffic at times of disaster, robust and reliable hosting services and capacity were a critical part of the requirement.

Solution:

An engaging website which talks the language of potential donors, provides them with clear, easy to access information regarding the disaster and encourages them to donate generously.  Regularly changing content updates donors on new developments and how funds are being spent.  Innovative features allow the DEC and its members to feedback stories and photos of project activities to visitors of the site.
